Study day: Challenges of audioguided creation

on the October 22, 2021

Organised within the framework of the programme « Écouter le terrain : Pratiques chorégraphiques en partage », co-sponsored by the UMR LITT&ARTS (axe 3 Expériences de la création / CINESTHEA), and the CDP Performance Lab, the CCN2 – Centre Chorégraphique National de Grenoble and the CDCN Le Pacifique, with the support of the ministère de la Culture

Ecouter le terrain : pratiques choréographiques en partage

This study day will focus on the way in which audio-guided creations, based on embedded sound devices, contribute to the renewal of theatrical and choreographic art in situ.

While outdoor artistic events are flourishing in the current pandemic context, the study day will focus on a certain type of outdoor creations, whose development largely predates the Covid-19 crisis, and which present the double specificity of being situated (inextricably linked to the sites within which they take shape) and audio-guided (based on on-board sound devices, which determine the experience of the sites they invest). In some cases, these creations offer the opportunity to follow or cross paths with artists whose choreographic and/or theatrical proposals are linked to those of the soundtracks; in other cases, they are entirely dependent on the interweaving of the "soundscapes" that they compose with the sites that inspire them.

What are the artists, more or less familiar with working in public space and in situ approaches, looking for when they engage in this type of creation? What do the sound proposals they develop consist of? How do they relate to the sites that host them, and how do they influence the spectator experiences to which they contribute?

To explore these questions, the study day will welcome researchers in the performing arts, specialists in in situ approaches, and will feature artists and companies concerned with these practices: Curious (United Kingdom), Ici-Même, Fanny de Chaillé, Cie Jeanne Simone, KompleX KapharnaüM, Laurent Pichaud and Pixel 13, Corinne Pontier of Ici-Même.
